ITS STILL COMING IN AT A NAILBITING PACE
what a feeling.!!!
Oh what a night!!! the trouncing and counter-trouncing continues - of course depending on which side of the knife you stand. :-)
so far, just about 9 out of 230 constituency results are out and Nana is leading by 50.8% to Mills 49.2. thus far, about 3,000 votes in that group has been rejected. and the total votes noted are Nana 146,485 and Mills 141, 363 this is just about 2% of the total votes ( estimated at about 12 million).
whoever said that the candidates will be enjoying their dinner is probably lying to us all... I am sure that the soups are just growing cold in both camps. in the meantime, the polling station results are coming in and its still a scatter brain
Its clear however that more people voted in the run-off than during Dec 7th. I am wondering if any side will start complaining about bloated registers especially in the areas where they made strong showings. they all need to rise above the fray and leave our ears in peace. I certainly would not want to see a situation where if you win, then there is no rigging but if you are losing then its the ball or the referee!!!!. We are well on the way to ensuring and affirming to all politicians that the people have the capacity to use their mind and thumbs on election day to welcome or pack off candidates depending on which dreams passed through their heads on the night before the election.
Oh by the way, can any one confirm when votere make up their mind? I am told that its about 3 months before the election.. if you have another view or you think you can speak on behalf of Ghanaian voters, let me know. as for me I know that it was my thumb that acted as magnetometer ( whatever that is!!) and decided for me.. maybe I used my brain, maybe I used my mind, maybe I used my stomach, maybe I listened to the radio,... but whatever I did, the choice that Ghanaians have made tonight (and as it is emerging softly softly) is one that is meant to put all politicians on edge and moves Ghana closer to a future of better electoral mechanisms where we probably can vote every and anywhere (preferably within our constituency with some sort of ID.) on voting day.
perhaps the time has come for teh rules to be re-written for us to see the day that private citizens can get their MPs to file on their behalf legislative bills on matters of keen interest. Thus far, we have not succeeded in getting other issues of referendum nature ( either national or local) put on the ballot when we go voting.. I want to see how far we can go with this notion in the years to come. I know that there are a few takers of such an idea out there... send me a wire as soon as you can.
This is one night where I have been able to enjoy the night with a small bottle of brukutu on top of my muscatella but I am not sure Agya Atta or Nana are sipping something. we wish both of them well and trust that they will both manage their pressure as the elections goes through the wire and the new and emerging numbers (certified and uncertified) are pumped up with an increased turnout and larger numbers than Dec 7th.
I will end by saying that at this time, its not clear whether we are moving forward or we are changing will become the winning slogans
By Jove, we have a night to remember!!
very sincerely yours
